How to develop a research protocol

On October 30, 2018, the Center held its third iteration of the course, “How to develop a research protocol.” The objective of this course was to introduce beginning researchers to the basic research concepts and methods of translating ideas into successful scientific protocols. The course was four hours long and was taught by Dr. Subhash Chandir. The target audience was healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff) and health scientists and researchers.

The course covered:
Proposal development

  • What are the sections of a research protocol?
  • How do you adequately complete all sections?

Developing data collection tools

  • What are the types of data collection tools?
  • How do you develop effective data collection tools?

Basics of research budgeting

  • Learning the do's and don'ts of budgeting.

Ethical/Institutional Review Board (IRB) process and issues

  • Basic ethical review of the research.
  • Learning the IRB process including drafting application and responses.

Reporting guidelines: CONSORT, STROBE, PRIMSA, mERA

  • Learn the reporting guidelines for publishing reports and results

References: Citation and Style

  • Learn to cite references using standard guidelines
